Java - URLConnection getContent(Class<?>[] classes)

Description

The Java URLConnection getContent() method retrieves the contents of this URL connection.

Declaration

Following is the declaration for java.net.URLConnection.getContent(Class<?>[] classes) method

public Object getContent(Class<?>[] classes) throws IOException

Parameters

classes − the Class array indicating the requested types

Return Value

the object fetched that is the first match of the type specified in the classes array. null if none of the requested types are supported. The instanceof operator should be used to determine the specific kind of object returned.

Exception

IOException − if an I/O error occurs while getting the content.

UnknownServiceException − if the protocol does not support the content type.

Example 1

The following example shows the usage of Java URLConnection getContent(Class<?>[] classes)) method for a valid url with https protocol. In this example, we're creating an instance of URL class. Using url.openConnection() method, we're getting the URLConnection instance. Using getContent(), we're getting the content of the home page of the website and printing the same −

Example 2
