News 1 - Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to be Republic Day Chief Guest

Abu Dhabi

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will be the Chief Guest at the 2017 Republic Day parade of India. He will be the first leader from the Gulf at the parade since 2006 when Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud was the Chief Guest.

French President Francois Hollande was the Chief Guest in 2016 while US President Barack Obama was the Chief guest to attend the parade in 2015.

News 2 - Kieren Dsouza became the first Indian to complete Spartathlon

Bengaluru’s Kieren Dsouza successfully completed The Spartathlon, an annual run from Athens to Sparta in Greece covering 246.6 kilometers. It is widely considered, ‘The world’s toughest race.’

Kieren's run lasted, 33 hours three minutes and 25 seconds and became the first ever Indian to finish it. Prior to this run, he was a designated Ultra Marathoner, who ran 160 km events. He became the fastest Indian to run above 100 miles by winning the Salomon Bhatti Lakes Ultra Marathon in 2015.

News 3 - Indo-American Vinaya Manchaiah named Future Leader of Audiology

Indian-American Vinaya Manchaiah has been named to the 2016 class of the ‘Jerger Future Leaders of Audiology’ by the American Academy of Audiology. He is an associate professor at Lamar University in Texas and one of only a dozen individuals selected nationwide for the honour.

He is the co-founder of non-profit NGO Audiology India, for which he served as president from 2011 to 2015. The organisation seeks to foster hearing and ear health care in India. Audiology is a branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and related disorders.

News 4 - Former ISRO chief U R Rao inducted into IAF Hall of Fame

Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Udupi Ramachandra Rao, became the first Indian to be inducted into the 2016 IAF Hall of Fame by the International Aeronautical Federation (IAF) during the closing ceremony of the IAF Congress 2016 held at Guadalajara, Mexico.

Prof U R Rao is an internationally renowned space scientist who has contributed to the development of space technology in India. Prof Rao, who has published over 360 scientific and technical papers in various journals, has received many honours and awards, including the Padma Bhushan Award.

News 5 - PV Sindhu roped in as the Brand Ambassador of Vizag Steel

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, popularly known as Vizag Steel, has roped in badminton champion and Rio silver medallist P V Sindhu as its brand ambassador. The company will have its brand logo on Sindhu's playing jersey in international and domestic tournaments under the aegis of Badminton World Federation and Badminton Association of India. Sindhu is currently ranked amongst the top 10 players in the world.

Vizag Steel is the first Shore based Integrated Steel Plant in the country and is known for its Quality Products.

News 6 - Bank of Baroda inked brand endorsement with PV Sindhu and K Srikanth

Bank of Baroda

Bank of Baroda inked principal sponsorship contract with badminton Olympians P V Sindhu and K Srikanth. The bank has signed a three-year deal with the two players. The deal was agreed in-principle before they represented India at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Bank of Baroda logo will now appear on the centre chest of the two athletes' playing jerseys in international and domestic tournaments under the aegis of Badminton World Federation Events - (BWF) and Badminton Association of India-sanctioned events, respectively.

News 7 - 'Wonder Woman' to be UN ambassador for women's empowerment

The United Nations is to enlist the super powers of "Wonder Woman" for a new campaign to empower women and girls.

The comic and television series heroine will be officially designated as the UN honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls during a ceremony on October 21. The ceremony will launch a year-long campaign on gender equality and women's empowerment, which is one of the UN's new global goals for the next 15 years.

News 8 - Virat Kohli appointed as the brand ambassador of Valvoline

Valvoline Cummins India has roped in Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador. He will be the face of Valvoline engine oils and lubricants range. The tagline is "Go Unstoppable". Valvoline wants to brand itself as one of the major players in the highly competitive engine oil category in the country.

Valvoline is a leading global producer, distributor and brand of high quality lubricants and specialized automotive, racing, commercial and industrial solutions.

News 9 - Lalbiakthanga Pachuau from Mizoram declared India's oldest working journalist

The Information and Public Relations department of Mizoram along with the Mizoram Journalists' Association (MJA) declared 90-year old Lalbiakthanga Pachuau as the "oldest working journalist in the country". He is the editor of 'Zoram Tlangau', a Mizo language daily.

Pachuau studied only till Class III before joining the Assam Regiment of the British Indian Army in 1945 at 18. He started editing his own newspaper in 1970 and was elected the president of MJA for three terms.

News 10 - Human rights activist Irom Sharmila declared formation of Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance new political party

Human rights activist Irom Sharmila, famously known as Iron Lady of Manipur announced launch of her new political party called as Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA), thus putting an end to her 16-year-old hunger strike. It was longest such campaign demanding for repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

Irom Sharmila would contest from constituencies Thoubal and Khurai. Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance party includes several activists and entrepreneurs. Academician Erendro Leichombam is the convenor of the party.

News 11 - G Balakrishna of Bengaluru crowned Mr. Asia 2016

G Balakrishna

G Balakrishna from Bengaluru has won the Mr. Asia title at the recently concluded 5th Phil-Asia bodybuilding championships in the Philippines. He is popular as the “Arnold Schwarzenegger of Whitefield”.

He won Mr. Universe Under-24 junior contest in 2013 in Germany. He also won the Mr. Universe Under-24 junior contest at the world championship in Athens in 2014. He runs a water tanker business in Bengaluru to increase his income.
