1 - London named the world’s best city for students

London

The QS Best Student Cities Ranking has named London as the world’s best city for students for the second consecutive year. The report was released by global education consultancy QS Quacquarelli Symonds. Tokyo and Melbourne were ranked at 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

India’s best student cities named among the list were Bengaluru (81), Mumbai (85), Delhi (113) and Chennai (115) out of a total of 120 cities. QS Best Student Cities Ranking highlights each city’s performance across different categories.

2 - Regional Conference on Good Governance to be held at Jaipur during November 14-15, 2019

The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) will organize the Regional Conference on Good Governance with the theme “Strengthening State Institutes of Public Administration” during 14th-15th November, 2019 at Jaipur, Rajasthan. It will bring National and State level organizations on the same platform to share experiences and implementation of good governance initiatives.

Discussions will be held on 6 sub-themes during the Conference: Refurbishing Personnel Administration and Capacity Building Programs, Training of Trainers, Online Training Programs & e-Governance Modules, Development of a Training Index, Centers of Excellence in the State Institutes of Public Administration and Training Vision 2024.

3 - Chandigarh’s Mohali gets first 3-D traffic signal

Mohali traffic police have launched 3-D Smart Traffic Signal devised by the students of Chandigarh University. The wireless system, called 'Intelights' proposes an Intelligent Traffic Timer Control; which uses dynamic signal control technology to adjust the timers of red, yellow and green lights according to the traffic density at an intersection.

The system uses existing CCTV cameras to gather live traffic video feed, and automatically evaluates the traffic density using Artificial Intelligence, and sets the signal timers accordingly.

4 - 2-day international conference on teacher education held in Delhi

Delhi Education

A two-day international conference on teacher education was held in New Delhi. The title was "Journey of Teacher Education: Local to Global". It was inaugurated by Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.

The event was organized by the National Council of Teacher Education as part of silver jubilee celebration of its establishment in 1995. The objective of the conference was to bring our school education system in alignment with global trends.

5 - National Conference of Tourism Ministers concluded successfully in New Delhi

The one-day National Conference of Tourism Ministers concluded successfully in New Delhi. It was organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism.

Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel launched the Hindi version of the new Incredible India portal at the conference while the Arabic, Chinese and Spanish versions of the website would be launched in Sep 2019. He also launched the Incredible India Tourist Facilitator Certification (IITFC) portal during the conference. IITFC is an online programme where one can learn about tourism and become a Certified Tourist Facilitator of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

6 - 9th Session of India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee held in New Delhi

The 9th Session of the India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee (JTC) was held on 19th – 20th August 2019 in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal. The Kenyan delegation was led by Peter Munya, Minister of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Government of the Republic of Kenya.

Both sides reviewed the developments in their bilateral trade. Progress in cooperation in the power sector, renewable energy, petroleum and natural gas, civil aviation and agricultural research was also reviewed.

7 - 4th edition of the Internet of Things (IoT) India Congress 2019

The fourth edition of the Internet of Things (IoT) India Congress 2019 concluded in Bangalore. The theme of the two-day event was ‘Mainstreaming the Internet of Things’. It focused on ten tracks, namely: Energy, Healthcare, Defence, Standards, Retail, Digital Communication, Skills, Agriculture, Manufacturing and Smart Cities.

IoT India Congress is a flagship event organised by the The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). The IET is one of the world's largest engineering institutions with over 168,000 members in 150 countries.

8 - 12th India Security Summit held in New Delhi

India Security Summit

The 12th India Security Summit was held in New Delhi. The theme of the summit was “Towards New National Cyber Security Strategy”. During the conference, many issues were discussed such as protection of critical national infrastructure, emerging cyber threats: incidents, challenges and response.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has rolled out a scheme ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)’ to combat cyber crime in the country, in a coordinated and effective manner.
