Solving a One-Step Linear Equation Problem Type 1
Introduction
In this type of problems, we use either only addition or subtraction operation to move the numbers and get the solution for the one-step equations.
Problem 1
Identify the solution to the linear equation 3 + x = 5
Solution
Step 1:
In this problem, we use subtraction to move the numbers and get the solution for the one-step equation.
3 + x = 5
Step 2:
Subtracting 3 from both sides of the equation to isolate the variable x.
3 + x 3 = 5 3
So, x = 8
Problem 2
Identify the solutions to the linear equation 11 y = 8
Solution
Step 1:
In this problem, we use addition to move the numbers and get the solution for the one-step equation.
11 y = 8
Step 2:
Adding 11 to both sides of the equation to isolate the variable y.
11 y + 11 = 8 + 11
y = 19
Step 3:
Changing sign on both sides of the equation
So, y = 19
