What is the work done by the force of gravity on a satellite moving around the earth? Justify your answer.
An object is moving in a circular path. On a complete revolution, the object will be at its initial position. So there is no displacement.
Therefore, displacement $d=0$
We know the formula for work done $\boxed{W=F.d}$
Here, $W\rightarrow$ work done
$F\rightarrow$ force acting on the body
$d\rightarrow$ displacement
If $d=0$,
Then, work done $W=F\times 0=0$
Therefore, the work done is zero. So the satellite moving around the earth in a circular orbit, and the work done is zero.
