What is the full form of AIMIM ?

Introduction

AIMIM - All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen is a political party which was previously based in Hyderabad. The origin of this political party has been traced to the formation of MIM which was mainly formed to protect the interests of the Muslim people in India. But after Owaisi revived MIM and renamed it to AIMIM, it became a political party whose main interest is not only to integrate the Muslims of the country and get policial or electoral representation but also to protect the rights of the other minorities in India.

AIMIM

AIMIM stands for All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen. This political party aims to protect the rights and interests of the Muslim people and other backward people and minorities like the Dalits, Adivasis and others. The party was born to promote the interests of the Muslim community and foster their all round development including educational and socio-economy. Previously, the organisation was known as Ittehad Bainal Muslimeen.

The party took part in elections for the first time in 1959 in Hyderabad resulting in its win in two municipal elections. In the 1960 Municipal Corporation elections of Hyderabad the party won 24 divisions and became the largest opposition party in Hyderabad. The party entered the Assembly elections in 1962 and Salar-e-Millat Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi won a seat from the constituency of Patherghati. In the 1984 Lok Sabha elections Owisi was elected from the constituency of Hyderabad marking the party’s entry into Lok Sabha. In today’s time AIMIM is one of the largest parties in Hyderabad.

History

The birth of AIMIM can be traced to the revival of MIM or Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. The MIM was founded by Nawab Mahmood Nawaz Khan Qiledar and was a political party formed in Hyderabad. This party demanded the formation of a ‘muslim dominion’ in India and wanted to protect the identity, culture, religion and interests of the Muslims. Nawab Bahadur Yar Jung was elected as the President of the MIM in 1938. He was one of the prominent leaders of the MIM who was also conferred the title ‘Qaid-e-Millat’. Through his work and principle MIM started becoming very popular and successful in its activities but these achievements came to a halt with the demise of Jung. Consequently, due to ‘Police Action’ in Hyderabad MIM was banned in 1948.

After several years MIM was revived by Maulvi Abdul Wahed Owisi in 1958. He was a graduate and lawyer. While trying to revive the MIM, Owisi renamed MIM to AIMIM and started building the community on his own. His dedication for the party became his personal charisma which attracted a lot of people who provided support.
