Perl uc Function



Description

This function returns an uppercased version of EXPR, or $_ if not specified. Check ucfirst() function which will return only first character in uppercase.

Syntax

uc EXPR

uc

Return Value

This function returns String in uppercase.

Example

Following is the example code showing its basic usage −

#!/usr/bin/perl -w

$string = 'the cat sat on the mat.';
$u_string = uc($string);

print "First String |$string|\n";
print "Second String |$u_string|\n";

When above code is executed, it produces the following result −

First String |the cat sat on the mat.|
Second String |THE CAT SAT ON THE MAT.|
