You are given a dry cell, a torch bulb with holder, wires and crocodile clips. How would you use them to distinguish between samples of metals and non-metals?
A torch bulb is fitted in a holder and connecting wires with crocodile clips and connected them to an electric circuit. Insert a piece of sulphur between the crocodile clip and bulk does not light up. This shows that sulphur does not allow the electric current to pass.
Now insert a piece of copper between the crocodile clip, the bulb will glow. This indicates that non-metals do not conduct electricity but metals do conduct electricity.
