Write the difference between rancidity and calcination.
The difference between rancidity and calcination are as follows:
Rancidity | Calcination |
1. It is a condition in which the substance with oil and fats get oxidized when they are exposed to air. | 1. It is the conversion of metals into their oxides at high temperature in a limited supply of air. |
2. A substance is said to be rancid when there is a change in smell, taste, and colour. | 2. Carbonates, bicarbonate ores are subjected to calcination process. |
3. An example of rancidity is when a chips pack is exposed to atmospheric air which results in a change in taste and odour. | 3. Ex: ZnCO3 → ZnO + CO2. |
