Why silk cloth is smooth than cotton cloth?

Cotton is a natural plant fibre. Cotton clothes contain uneven spaces to allow passage of air. The cotton clothes also have an uneven surface which makes it a rough surface.

On the other hand,

Silk is a natural animal Fibre. It comes from the cocoon of silk moths. Silk Fibres are made up of long fine structure which makes it appear smooth in touch.
