Why is the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid an oxidation reaction?
Ethanol is converted into ethanoic acid by the addition of oxygen released by potassium permanganate in the reaction mixture. As it involves the addition of oxygen to ethanol, it is an oxidation reaction.
