Why do we feel cool under the shade of a tree?
Normally, trees help cool the planet by absorbing carbon dioxide (as part of the photosynthesis process) and by evaporating water into the air. In the tropics, water evaporates naturally from trees, increasing cloud cover and keeping temperatures cooler.
A tree constantly releases moisture from its leaves through transpiration. The air is cooled as water goes from liquid to a vapor absorbing heat from surroundings. The air between the tree's leaves is cooled by the transpiration and dense and heavy cool air sinks towards the ground around the tree's trunk making it cool under and around the tree
