While tracing the path of a ray of light passing through a rectangular glass slab a student tabulated his observations as given below:
The correct observation is:(a) I (b) II (c) III (d) IV "
(d) IV
Explanation
According to Snell's Law:
$\frac {sin\ i}{sin\ r}=\frac {n_2}{n_1}$
Substituting the given values of S.No. (IV) in the above formula we get-
$\frac {sin\ 30}{sin\ 20}=\frac {0.5}{0.3}=1.6$
1.6 can be taken as 1.5 in round figure.
Therefore, the ratio of the sine values of $i$ and $r$ should be 1.5.
Note: Refractive index of glass = 1.5, and Refractive index of air = 1.
Among all of the options, only from observation (IV) or option(d), we can get the ratio of the sine values of $i$ and $r$ 1.5.
