Which is a better deal for a customer, a single discount of 14% or two successive discount of 12% and 2%
Given:
A single discount of 14% and two successive discounts of 12% and 2%.
To do:
We have to find if a single discount of 14% is better or two successive discounts of 12% and 2% is better.
Solution:
Let the marked price be Rs. 100.
Price after single discount of 14% $=100-\frac{14}{100}\times100$
$=100-14=86$
In the second case,
First discount $= 12 \%$
$12 \%$of 100 $= \frac{12}{100}\times100=12$
Price $=100 - 12 = 88$
Second discount $= 2 \%$
$2 \%$ of 88 $= \frac{2}{100}\times88$
$=1.76$
Final price $= 88-1.76$
$= 86.24$
Therefore, a single discount of 14% is better than two successive discounts of 12% and 2%.
