When We Put Burning Candle Near The Mouth Of Test Tube Consisting Of Sulphuric Acid And Piece Of Magnesium Metal. Why Does It Explode ?
Dear Alisha,
Sulfuric acid and Magnesium react to form Hydrogen and Magnesium Sulfate. It is a displacement reaction.
Mg + H2SO4 --> MgSO4 + H2
Hydrogen gas when released reacts vigorously with air and oxygen. Hence, when it is brought near a burning candle, It produces a loud sound.It also proves that the emitted gas is hydrogen only.
