When the heart is present inside the chest cavity so why do we sense the heartbeats on our hands/ neck / behind the knee?
The human heart is a muscle that pushes the blood through the arteries to transport it to different organs of the body.
The flowing of blood through the arteries causes it to expand and contract rhythmically. Thus, the expansions and contractions of the arteries can be felt as a pulse or heartbeat in several places across the body where the artery passes closer to the skin surface.
