What make objects float on water?

An object floats when the weight of the object is balanced by the upward push of the water on the object. The upwards push of the water increases with the volume of the object that is underwater, it is not affected by depth or amount of water present.
A light substance whose density is less as compared to that of water floats in water.
This is why it is seen that lighter things cannot easily sink in the water rather it floats on the water.
Example: The density of the feather is less as compared to that of water makes the feather floats on water.
