What is the momentum in kg.m/s of a 10 kg car travelling at (a) 5 m/s (b) 20 cm/s, and (c) 36 km/h ?
Here given, mass of the body $m=10\ kg$
(a) Velocity of the car $v=5\ m/s$
Therefore, the momentum of the car $=mv$
$=10\ kg\times5\ m/s$
$=50\ kg-m/s$
(b) Velocity of the car $v=20\ cm/s=20\times\frac{1}{100}\ m/s=0.2\ m/s$
Therefore, the momentum of the car $=mv$
$=10\ kg\times0.2\ m/s$
$=2\ kg-m/s$
(c) Velocity of the car $v=36\ km/h=36\times\frac{5}{18}\ m/s=10\ m/s$
Therefore, the momentum of the car $=mv$
$=10\ kg\times10\ m/s$
$=100\ kg-m/s$
