What is prime factorization?

Prime factorization:

Prime numbers are those numbers that have only two factors; 1 and the number itself.

For example:

2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13....are prime numbers. No other numbers can divide prime numbers completely without leaving a remainder.

Prime factorization is the process of breaking down a number as a product of its prime factors.

For example:

  • $12 = 2 \times 2 \times 3$
  • $75 = 3 \times 5 \times 5$
  • $112 = 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 7$
