What is Plasma Membrane?


The cell membrane is also known as the "plasma membrane". It is the outermost layer or the boundary of a cell. It separates the cell from the external environment. The cell membrane is a porous structure that allows only the useful substances to enter the cell and not the unwanted materials. Hence, the cell membrane is termed as a selectively permeable membrane.
