What is gravitational potential energy?
When an object is located at a height, its potential energy due to gravity is known as gravitational potential energy. It is denoted by $U_g$ and its directly proportional to the height and the mass of the object.
$U_g=mgh$
While, $m\rightarrow$ mass of the object
$g\rightarrow$ gravitational acceleration
$h\rightarrow$ height of the object
Thus, the higher the object is located, the more potential energy it has.
Similarly, the heavier the object, the more potential energy it posses.
