What is Sedimentation , Decantation, Filtration?
Sedimentation - Sedimentation is the process in which heavier particles of an insoluble solid settle down in a liquid. It is a process by which one can separate mixtures of substances.
Eg: we can remove sand from water through the process of sedimentation.
Decantation is the process of pouring out the liquid without disturbing the sediment.
Eg: sand and water
Filtration is a method for separating an insoluble solid from a liquid. When a mixture of sand and water is filtered by using filter paper. The sand stays behind in the filter paper (it becomes the residue ) the water passes through the filter paper (it becomes the filtrate ).
