What is Anemometer?

Anemometer is used to measure wind speed. The mostly used anemometer has four cups attached to the horizontal arms, which are in turn attached to a horizontal rod. The cups rotate when there is wind, making the rod to spin. Now wind speed is measured by counting the number of rotations/spins of the rod. Since there can be gusts and lulls, the speed of the wind is taken not at a particular moment but at short periodic intervals.
