What is acceleration?
The rate of the change of the velocity with respect to the time is known as the acceleration.
If a body with initial velocity $u$ starts moving and its velocity becomes $v$ in time $t$ then
Change in velocity $=v-u$
Acceleration $a=\frac{Change\ in\ velocity}{time}$
Or $a=\frac{v-u}{t}$
SI unit of acceleration is $m/s^2$.
