What is a linear pair?

Linear pair Angles :

Linear pair of angles are formed when two lines intersect each other at a single point.

The angles are said to be linear if they are adjacent to each other after the intersection of the two lines.

The sum of angles of a linear pair is always equal to 180°. Such angles are also known as supplementary angles. One angle is called the supplement of the other.

In the figure,

Angle XOZ and Angle YOZ form a linear pair and are supplementary angles.

Linear pair requires angles to be adjacent, that is, the two angles must have a common ray.

But, in case of supplementary angles, angles need not be adjacent.

Linear pair angles are always supplementary.
