What is a biosphere?

Biosphere

The biosphere is the layer of the planet Earth where life exists. It is one of the four layers that surround the Earth along with the lithosphere (rock), hydrosphere (water), and atmosphere (air) and it is the sum of all the ecosystems.

The biosphere is defined as the area of the planet where organisms live, including the ground and the air. An example of the biosphere is where life occurs on, above, and below the surface of Earth.

The biosphere is the portion of Earth where life occurs -- the portions of the land, water and air that hold life. These parts are known, respectively, as the lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere. ... The hydrosphere is the aquatic portion of the planet, all of which supports life.
