What is a covalent bond? What type of bond exists in (i) CCl4 (ii) CaCl2?
A covalent bond also called a molecular bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is known as covalent bonding.
Example: Covalent bonding between hydrogen atoms: Since each hydrogen atom has one electron, they are able to fill their outermost shells by sharing a pair of electrons through a covalent bond.
 - CCl4 - Covalent bond,
- CaCl2 - Ionic bond
