What happened if we have no diaphragm in our body? Why?

The diaphragm is a muscle separating the thoracic cage from the abdomen. During the inspiration process, the muscles of the diaphragm contract, pulling the diaphragm downwards, increasing the volume of the thorax, and causes the air to rush into the lungs.

If there is no diaphragm, then the respiration process cannot take place smoothly.
