What does humus mean?


Humus is a dark, organic material that forms in soil. It is formed by the decomposition of leaves and other plant and animal materials by soil microorganisms, like leaves, twigs, animal dung or remains, etc. Humus contains nutrients that improve the health of the soil, nitrogen being the most important.
