Solution:
Let the numbers be $x$.
According to the question,
$(x-\frac{5}{2})\times8=3x$
$8x-4(5)=3x$
$8x-3x=20$
$5x=20$
$x=\frac{20}{5}$
$x=4$
Therefore, the required number is $4$.
