The sum of two numbers is $\frac{−4}{3}$. If one of the number is $-5$, find the other number.
Given:
The sum of two numbers is $\frac{-4}{3}$.
One of the numbers is $-5$.
To do:
We have to find the other number.
Solution:
Let the other number be $x$.
This implies,
$-5+x=\frac{-4}{3}$
$x=\frac{-4}{3}-(-5)$
$x=\frac{-4}{3}+5$
$x=\frac{-4\times1+5\times3}{3}$
$x=\frac{-4+15}{3}$
$x=\frac{11}{3}$
Therefore, the other number is $\frac{11}{3}$.
