The product of two rational number is $\frac{-8}{7}$. If one number is $\frac{2}{9}$ find the other number.
Given:
The product of two rational number is $\frac{-8}{7}$.
One number is $\frac{2}{9}$.
To do:
Product of two rational numbers = $\frac{-8}{7}$
Solution:
One number = $\frac{2}{9}$
Let the other number be $x$
So,
$x \times \frac{2}{9}$ = $\frac{-8}{7}$
$x = \frac{-8}{7} \times \frac{9}{2}$
$x = \frac{- 8 \times 9}{7 \times 2}$
$x = \frac{-4 \times 9}{ 7}$ ($4 \times 2 = 8$)
$x = \frac{-36}{ 7}$
The other rational number is $\frac{-36}{ 7}$ .
