The cost of fencing a rectangular field at Rs. 18 per meter is Rs. 1980. If the width of the field is 23m, find its length.
Given :
The cost of fencing the rectangular field at Rs. 18 per square meter $= Rs. 1980$
The width of the field $= 23$ m
To do :
We have to find the length of the field.
Solution :
Let the length of the field be 'l' m.
We know that,
The area of a rectangle of length a and breadth b is $a\times b$.
The area of the rectangular field $= 23m \times l m = 23l m^2$
Cost of fencing 1 sq. m. $=$ Rs. 18
Cost of fencing $23l sq.m = Rs. 18 \times 23l$
Therefore,
$18\times 23l = 1980$
$l = \frac{1980}{18\times 23}$
$l = \frac{110}{23}$
$l = 4.78$ m.
The length of the field is 4.78 m.
