The actual length of a painting was 2 km. What is its length in a photograph if the scale used is 1mm:10cm?
Given:
The actual length of a painting was 2 km.
The scale used is 1 mm:10 cm.
To do:
We have to find the length in the photograph.
Solution:
Let the length in Photograph be $x$.
Scale used $=1\ mm:10\ cm$
This implies,
1 mm length in photo $=$ 10 cm in actual length.
$x$ mm length in photo $= 10x$\ cm in actual length
Therefore,
$10x$ cm $= 2$ km
$10x\ cm = 2\times1000\times100\ cm$
$x=20000\ cm$
$x=\frac{20000}{100}\ m$
$x=200\ m$
$x=\frac{200}{1000}\ km$
$x=0.2\ km$
The length in the photograph is 0.2 km.
