Savitha walks $ \frac{2}{3} \mathrm{~km} $ from a place P towards east and then from there $\frac{12}{7}\ km$ towards west. Where will be she now?
Given:
Savitha walks \( \frac{2}{3} \mathrm{~km} \) from a place P, towards east and then from there \( \frac{12}{7} \) km towards west.
To do:
We have to find the final position of Savitha from P.
Solution:
Let P be the origin, the movement towards East be positive and the movement towards the West be negative.
Therefore,
The final position of Savitha from P$=\frac{2}{3}-\frac{12}{7}$
$=\frac{2\times7-3\times12}{21}$ (LCM of 3 and 7 is 21)
$=\frac{14-36}{21}$
$=\frac{-22}{21}$
$=-1\frac{1}{21}$
This implies,
Savitha is $1\frac{1}{21}$ km West of P.
