Pulkit's salary was Rs 35,000. He got a raise of Rs 7,000. Reena's salary was Rs 24,000. She was given a raise of Rs 6,000. Find what fraction of the original income the raise was for each and which one of the two got a higher raise.
Given :
Salary of Pulkit = Rs. 35,000
Raise in salary of Pulkit = Rs. 7,000
Salary of Reena = Rs. 24,000
Raise in salary of Reena = Rs. 6,000
To find :
We have to find what fraction of the original income the raise was for each and which one of the two got a higher raise.
Solution :
The fractional raise in salary for Pulkit = $\frac{7000}{35000}=\frac{1}{5}.$
The fractional raise in salary for Reena = $\frac{6000}{24000}=\frac{1}{4}.$
We know that,
If a > b then $\frac{1}{a}<\frac{1}{b}$ where a and b are positive integers.
Therefore,
5>4 implies $\frac{1}{5}<\frac{1}{4}$
This implies,
Reena got a higher raise.
