Places such as the mountains, where the temperature gets very low during winters, the plastic pipes meant for water transportation breaks because, during winter, the water pipes contract while the water inside the pipe expands due to low temperature (freezing). This causes an increase in pressure inside the pipe. When the pressure gets too high for the pipe to contain, it ruptures.
