In which direction do the new moon and the full moon occur?

The moon rises in the east direction and sets in the west direction, although the direction in which it rises and sets is not exact.

Both the Moon and Earth rotate and revolve in a counterclockwise/anticlockwise direction. So, the direction of the new moon and the full moon occurs in counterclockwise or west to east direction.

There are 8 different phases of the moon, which are produced due to the alignment of the Sun and moon in the solar system.

The 8 lunar phases of the moon are:

1. New Moon,

2. First Quarter Moon,

3. Full Moon,

4. Last Quarter Moon.

5. Waxing Crescent Moon,

6. Waxing Gibbous Moon,

7. Waning Gibbous Moon, and

8. Waning Crescent Moon.

The time required for the moon to go from new moon and back around to new moon is 29.5 days, and this time period is referred to as the synodic month.
