In a class test containing 15 questions, 4 marks are given for every correct answer and (–2) marks are given for every incorrect answer. (i) Bharathi attempts all questions but only 9 answers are correct. What is her total score? (ii) One of her friends Hema attempts only 5 questions and all are correct. What will be her total score?

Given :

Total number of questions $= 15$

Marks given for every correct answer $= 4$

Marks given for every incorrect answer $= -2$

To find :

We have to find the total score of Bharathi and Hema.

Solution :

(i) Correct answers by Bharathi $= 9$

Incorrect answers by Bharathi $= 15-9=6$

Marks given for correct answers $= 4 \times 9 = 36$

Marks given for incorrect answers $= 6 \times (-2) = -12$

Total score of Bharathi $= 36+(-12) = 36-12=24$.

(ii) Correct answers by Hema $= 5$

Marks given for correct answers $= 5 \times 4 = 20$

Total score of Hema $= 20$
