If the diameter of the Sun is $1.4\times10^9$ m and that of the Earth is $1.275\times10^4$ km. Compare the two.
Given:
The diameter of the Sun is $1.4\times10^9$ m and that of the Earth is $1.275\times10^4$ km.
To do:
We have to compare the two.
Solution:
We know that,
$1\ km=1000\ m$
Therefore,
Diameter of the Sun $=1.4\times10^9$ m.
Diameter of the Earth $=1.275\times10^4$ km$=1.275\times10^4\times10^3$ m
$=1.275\times10^7$ m
This implies,
Diameter of the Sun$\div$Diameter of the Earth$=\frac{1.4\times10^9}{1.275\times10^7}$
$=110$
Diameter of the Sun is 110 times the diameter of the Earth.
