I bought wheat worth Rs. 12 $\frac{1}{2}$, rice worth Rs. 25 $\frac{3}{4}$ and vegetables worth Rs. 10 $\frac{1}{4}$. If I gave a hundred-rupee note to the shopkeeper; how much did he return to me?
Given: A person bought wheat worth Rs. 12 $\frac{1}{2}$, rice worth Rs. 25 $\frac{3}{4}$ and vegetables worth Rs. 10 $\frac{1}{4}$
To find: We have to find how much will the shopkeeper return.
Solution:
Money given to shopkeeper is Rs 100
Cost of Wheat Rs 12 $\frac{1}{2}$ or Rs 12.50
Cost of Rice Rs25 $\frac{3}{4}$ or Rs 25.75
Cost of Vegetables Rs 10 $\frac{1}{4}$or Rs 10.25
Total purchases = Rs 48.50
The money that the shopkeeper would return to me = Rs 100 - Rs48.50
= Rs 51.50
