How will you indicate the following effects in a chemical equation?
(a) A solution made in water
(b) Exothermic reaction
(c) Endothermic reactionp>
(a) A solution made in water is represented by writing (aq) after its formula in a chemical equation.
Example:$\ 2CaOCl_{2}( s) \ +\ H_{2} SO_{4}( aq) \ \rightarrow \ CaSO_{4}( aq) \ +\ CaCl_{2}( aq) \ +\ 2HClO( aq) \ $
(b) Exothermic reaction is represented by writing “heat” or “heat energy” or “energy” on the side of products (right side of arrow) of a chemical equation.
Example: $CH_{4\ } +\ 2O_{2} \ \rightarrow \ CO_{2} +2H_{2} O+Heat$
(c) Endothermic reaction is indicated by writing “heat” or “heat energy” or “energy” on the side of reactants (left side of arrow) or on top of the arrow of a chemical equation.
Example: $N_{2} +O_{2} +Heat\rightarrow 2NO$
$N_{2} +O_{2} \xrightarrow{Heat} 2NO$
