How to solve the equation by systematic method?0.5 ( x -5 ) - 0.2 ( 9x - 4 ) = 0.8

Given: $0.5(x-5)-0.2(9 x-4)=0.8$

To do: Solve systematically

Solution:

$0.5(x-5)-0.2(9 x-4)=0.8$

Multiply both sides by 10
$0.5(x-5) \cdot 10-0.2(9 x-4) \cdot 10=0.8 \cdot 10$

Simplify
$5(x-5)-2(9 x-4)=8$

Expand $5(x-5)-2(9 x-4): \quad-13 x-17$

$-13 x-17=8$

Add 17 to both sides
$-13 x-17+17=8+17$

Simplify
$-13 x=25$

Divide both sides by -13
$\frac{-13 x}{-13}=\frac{25}{-13}$

Simplify
$x=-\frac{25}{13}$
