How do painkillers kill pain?

Painkillers or pain relievers work with the cells, and the body's nerve endings, the nervous system, and the brain.
The skin and tissues of a human body are full of nerve endings, which sense pain. During an injury or damage, the cells release a chemical called, prostaglandins. The nerve endings are sensitive to this chemical, and hence cause a pain sensation in your body. When you take a pain killer, it acts on the damaged cells and minimizes the release of prostaglandins. Hence, you gradually stop feeling pain.
