Half cubic metre of gold-sheet is extended by hammering so as to cover an area of $1$ hectare. Find the thickness of the gold- sheet.
Given:
Half cubic metre of gold-sheet is extended by hammering so as to cover an area of $1$ hectare.
To do:
We have to find the thickness of the gold- sheet.
Solution:
Volume of the gold plate $=\frac{1}{2} \mathrm{~m}^{3}$
$=0.5 \mathrm{~m}^{3}$
Area covered by the plate $=1$ hectare
$=10000 \mathrm{~m}^{2}$
Therefore,
The thickness of the gold sheet $=\frac{\text { Volume }}{\text { Area }}$
$=\frac{0.5}{10000}\ m$
$=\frac{5}{10000 \times 10}\ m$
$=\frac{5 \times 100}{10000 \times 10}\ cm$
$=\frac{1}{200} \mathrm{~cm}$
