Give the geometric representations of $ y=3 $ as an equation
(i) in one variable
(ii) in two variables.
To do:
We have to write the geometric representation of $y=3$ as an equation
(i) in one variable and
(ii) in two variables.
Solution:
(i) We know that,
To draw a graph of a linear equation in one variable, we need only one solution.
Given,
$y=3$
This implies,
$x=0$ and $y=3$
The geometric representation of $y=3$ in one variable is,
(ii) We know that,
To draw a graph of a linear equation in two variables, we need at least two solutions to the given equation.
$y=3$ can be written as,
$(0)x+y=3$ in two variables.
To find the solutions to the equation $(0)x+y=3$
Let us substitute $x=0,1$ in equation $(0)x+y=3$
We get,
$(0)0+3=3$
$3=3$
For $x=1$
We get,
$1(0)+3=3$
$3=3$
Therefore,
$(0, 3)$ and $(1, 3)$ are two solutions of the equation$(0)x+y=3$.
