Give reason why.
(a) Copper metals used for making electric wires.
(b) Graphite is used for making electrode in a cell.
(c) Immersion rods for heating liquids are made of metallic substances.
(a) Copper is a good conductor of electricity. It is ductile and less expensive. Hence, it is used for making electrical wires.
(b) Graphite is a non-corrosive non-metal and a poor conductor of electricity. It is also cheap and insoluble in water, acids, and bases. It is inert (does not react) to the electrolytes present in the dry cells. Hence, it makes a good material for an electrode.
(c) Immersion rods for heating liquids are made of metallic substances because metallic substances are good conductors of electricity and heat. Metals have free electrons which makes them good conductors of heat and electricity.
