For how long should a force of 100 N acts on a body of 20 kg so that it acquires a velocity of 100 m/s?
Here given, force $F=100\ N$
Mass of the body $m=20\ kg$
Initial velocity $u=0$
Final velocity $v=100\ m/s$
Time $t=?$
As known $F=ma$
Therefore, $a=\frac{100\ N}{20\ kg}$
$=5\ m/s^2$
On using the first equation of the motion, $v=u+at$
$100=0+5\times t$
Or $t=\frac{100}{5}$
Or $t=20\ s$
Therefore, for $20\ s$ a force of 100 N acts on a body of 20 kg so that it acquires a velocity of 100 m/s.
