Find the sum by suitable rearrangement:
(a) 837 + 208 + 363 (b) 1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647
GIven: (a) 837 + 208 + 363 (b) 1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647
To find: sum by a suitable rearrangement
Solution:
a. 837+208+363
We have to rearrange the numbers in such a way that when we add two numbers the units digit should be 0.
Therefore,
837+208+363 = 837 + 363 +208 (As we can see sum of the units digit of 837 and 363 gives 0)
= 1200 + 208 (837+363 = 1200)
= 1408
b. 1962+453+1538+647 = 1962+1538+453+647 (2+8 = 10 and 3+7 = 10)
= 3500 + 1100
= 4600.
