Find the rule which gives the number of matchsticks following matchstick patterns. Use a variable to write the rule:
$( a)$ A pattern of letter T as $T$
$( b)$ A pattern of letter Z as $Z$
Solution:
$( a).$ Making $T$ using matchsticks
Here, we find,
For $1\ T$, Number of matchsticks $=2$
For $2\ T$, Number of matchsticks $=4$
For $3\ T$, Number of matchsticks $=6$
$\Rightarrow$ Number of matchsticks $=2n$ [Where $n$ is the number of $T$]
$( b)$. Making $Z$ with Matchsticks,
For $1\ Z$, Number of matchsticks $=3$
For $2\ Z$, Number of matchsticks $=6$
For $3\ Z$, Number of matchsticks $=9$
$\Rightarrow$ Number of matchsticks $=3n$ [Where $n$ is the number of $Z$]
